Text message from the catalog

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Are you tired of using those silly golf pencils and those tiny pieces of paper? So are we! That’s why we have started a texting service from the library catalog. Once you find the item you are looking for in the catalog, use the “Text This” feature to send the information to your cell phone. Less pencils and less paper = less waste.

Share the Wealth! Bring your recalled books back.

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

BookOne of the cost saving measures the Library has adopted this year is to stop the interlibrary ordering of books that we own but are currently checked out to someone else at CSUF. We are now asking library users to “recall” any checked-out book they wish to use. This is done within the Library Catalog by clicking on the “Recall this item” button. The student, faculty, or staff member with the checked-out book will get an email notice giving that person 10 days to return the book to the library.

If you happen to get such a notice, remember your kindergarten teacher and how he or she taught you to share and be nice. :-)  It is way better than getting a time-out (or an overdue fine)! For more information about this policy, please see the Recall Policy.

oaister

Looking for historical documents, streaming video, audio files, digitized books, or scholarly articles?  This huge database provides access to almost 20 million records of freely available digital collections and resources from over 1,000 institutions. Most places want to show off the cool things they own – like unpublished letters by Edgar Allen Poe, a photo of William Faulkner, or an article about the antimicrobial properties of sea hares published in the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research. Check out OAIster the next time you have a research project. You might be pleasantly surprised. It is available on our Databases A-Z list.
